Why Join The Rotary Club

Membership is crucial to any Rotary club’s ability to offer activities involving community service and other operations as well. As such, the club’s primary goal is to continually grow its membership by taking in committed individuals. These people need to be interested in offering their services towards humanitarian projects and have the ability to do so continually as well.

Rotary Club such as the Rotary Club of Belize Sunrise, is somewhat different from regular services clubs, as it is a fellowship that has as its major objective the provision of service. In essence, this means that the fellowship aspect of any Rotary club is the way it achieves success. Consequently, we encourage persons who are interested in Rotary, to express this interest to an acquaintance that is already a Rotarian.  The Rotarian will be able to invite them to some of the meetings as a guest, and they will be able to meet and interact with some of the club members. If there is a fit, then the invitation to become a member may be extended, although this is not automatic.

If you do not already know any Rotarian, one way would be to join our Friends of Rotary Group. This is an associate body of non-Rotarians which was recently formed, where the members do not know if they can meet the attendance requirements and expense obligations of full time-Rotarian membership, without having experienced the service aspect first. Members of the Friends of Rotary Group work alongside Rotarians to accomplish the established goals of service, and the Friends of Rotary Group is an avenue to get to know the Rotary and the ideals prior to full committal to Rotary fellowship.

Criteria for Prospective Members

One must hold, or have retired from an executive, managerial or proprietary position. They also need to possess the capacity to meet the club’s requirements in terms of attendance every week and participation in various community projects. The person also needs to be a resident or work within the club’s locality, or the area surrounding the neighborhood.

Acquiring Membership

Typically, an individual who’s been considered for membership will be invited by a current sponsor or member to attend one or several club meetings. This gives them a chance to acquaint themselves more with Rotary. The sponsor then submits the candidate’s name to the membership committee run by the club. The member is asked to join the club after other existing members have approved the application. This entire process could take between 30-45 days.
If there are still questions which you did not get an answer to after reading the above, then do not hesitate to contact our Membership Chair for additional information.
